 NON-URGENT PROBLEMS

For any non urgent and routine medical appointments please ring the surgery telephone number 01274-496433 after 8:00 AM and we will endeavour to give you a same day appointment.

WHAT SHOULD I DO, WHEN THE SURGERY IS CLOSED?

When our surgery is closed, the "out of hours" services commences. The standard out of hours period is:

  • weekday evening and night, from 6.30pm until 8am the following morning
  • weekends, 6.30pm on Friday until 8am on Monday
  • Bank Holiday days.

Note: for health information and advice, at any time of the day, you can also contact NHS DIRECT on 0845 4647.

Qualified pharmacists are on hand to help with minor ailments and basic health advice. Some pharmacists have semi private areas where you can talk in confidence.  For more serious symptoms, the pharmacist may suggest you visit your GP.

Some pharmacists in the region are open later than usual, so treatments and advice is on hand later in the evening.

HOW DO I CONTACT THE OUT OF HOURS SERVICE?

If you are registered with us then please ring your usual surgery telephone number. You will either be given an alternative number to ring or your call will be automatically diverted to the out of hours provider, Local Care Direct. Alternatively you can contact Local Care Direct by ringing 0845 120 7066.

If you live outside the area but are currently staying with someone in the Bradford and Airedale district, you can also access the service provided by Local Care Direct out of hours by ringing 0845 120 7066.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THE OUT OF HOURS SERVICE?

If you need urgent help and ring Local Care Direct, your details will be taken and a nurse or doctor will phone back to discuss the problem. Sometimes, the nurse or doctor will be able to give advice over the telephone and you will not need to be seen by a doctor. However, if the nurse or doctor who rings you back feels that you do need to be seen by a doctor, you will normally be given an appointment to attend one of the Primary Care Centres in the district. These are located within Bradford Royal Infirmary, Eccleshill Community Hospital and Airedale General Hospital. Directions to the relevant Centre will be given at the time that an appointment is made.

If it is considered necessary, a home visit might be offered. However this is generally restricted to patients who are considered to be too ill to travel to a Primary Care Centre.

The out of hours medical service is run by Local Care Direct on behalf of the Bradford and Airedale PCT.
